I have years of experience capturing these important moments, I ensure that no precious memory goes unnoticed. I recognise the private and personal nature of childbirth, navigating this delicate environment, always maintaining a high level of respect and discretion. Don't let those moments slip away. Book your birth photography today and give yourself the incredible gift of preserving the incredible moments of birth. I recommend booking in as early as possible if you are wanting me to attend your birth.

  • Why birth photography?
Because it's absolutely amazing, the most incredible event of your entire life no matter how it plays out. It has the ability to rock you to your core, and show you just how strong you are at the same time. It pushes people beyond their limits, women and their partners. There's nothing like birth, chaotic beauty that should never be forgotten
  • Do you capture home and hospital births?
Yes, I capture birth in both settings - Homebirth, Private hospital and public.
  • Can we meet first?
I offer a complimentary consultation, which is essentially an informal meeting where we get to know each other, and discuss your birth preferences . You're welcome to bring your partner or even your entire family. This meeting will help us gauge our compatibility and ensure you feel comfortable having me present during your birth. I understand that this is an incredibly vulnerable and special time for you, and I only want the absolute best for you and your experience.
  • How many births do you take?
Typically I only take 1 per month - pending due dates. I do book out quickly and recommend getting in touch with me ASAP to secure your spot. You can call or email me via: Instagram: @furnerphotography Ph: 0402 734 321 Email: furnerphotography@gmail.com
  • When are you on call for a birth?
When you hire me as your birth photographer, I am on call 24/7 to arrive at your birth from 38 weeks onward. Meaning that the weeks surrounding your due date, I am available to join you no matter when you call me - whether it is the middle of the night, a weekend or during the day.
  • When you will you arrive to begin documenting my birth?
I base this decision off a number of unique factors, including your birth location and history, and with this, we make a personalised plan. Generally speaking though, I aim to attend your birth once you are in active labour. I am happy to spend the time with you, as I would prefer to be there than to miss your birth. The best way to assess when you're ready for me is with how close your contractions are, how difficult they are for you to manage, if waters have broken or dilation if known. I may also have a conversation with your birth partner, your doula, your midwife and/or your obstetrician if applicable.
  • How long are you at the birth for?
The beautiful thing about birth, is that every story is different. No two births will be the same! I will stay the entire duration of your labour and approximately 2 hours after baby is born. This allows time for first snuggles, skin-to-skin, breastfeeding to start, meeting of siblings, and the newborn exam to document baby’s weight and height. **There may be times where your labour progression may have slowed significantly. During these times, I may choose to to rest and recharge, away from your birth space.
  • Do you use a flash?
Yes, I prefer to use a flash so that the images I provide are of the highest quality. The way I use my flash, by bouncing the light off the ceiling or nearby wall, means that my birthing clients never are disturbed or are made aware, The flash will never be directed near or towards your face. My camera is equipped to handle low light situations It's important to understand how lighting will affect the appearance of your photographs. Images captured in low light with no flash tend to appear softly focused and ‘noisy’ - similar to a grainy old camera look. Images captured in low light with a flash are more clearly in focus and without added texture or grain.
  • Do I let my midwife/doula/obstetrician know that I am having a birth photographer present?
Yes! This lets your provider and support team be aware of who is in the room and allows time for any reservations they may have to be resolved before your actual day of birth. This is also applicable where if your birth photographer is considered a second support person and therefore any other support persons may not be able to enter the birth space. I can also provide additional information to your care provider and assist you with navigating having me in the birth space.
  • What happens if you miss a birth or I birth fast?
In the case, where you just have a precipitous (VERY rapid) birth, I will still arrive at your birthing location to join you to take photos. If I miss the birth we will arrange to set up a Fresh 48 session (within the first day or two of birth in hospital or at home). The fast birth is part of your story and I am there to document your story as it unfolds, even if it is fast!
  • What happens if I have a caesarean (emergency or planned)?
Ultimately in this situation, you and your birth partner must ask for me to be permitted in to theatre. Access in to the operating theatre, planned or not, is very much dictated by the hospital, its policies and the obstetrician/surgeon. I will seek permission (if needed) from the medical professionals attending your birth to stay with you for as long as possible to document as much as possible in this situation. I highly encourage you to discuss your passion and wishes for birth photography with your obstetrician/care provider beforehand. I am able to provide a letter for you to give to your obstetrician/ care provider well in advance, introducing myself as your photographer and seeking permission to document your caesarean birth.
  • Do you provide other support or services?
Yes. I also provide doula support and offer both prenatal and postpartum services alongside birth support. You can book me as a doula-tog and learn more about my Doula Offerings via the button below.
